Learn To Swim Framework

The Learn to Swim Stage 1-7 Awards are divided into progressive stages. They make up the core, national syllabus of learning to swim for primary school aged children. They are designed to reward your child for their development of the essential aquatic skills they need to be confident, competent and safe in the water. Each of the Learn to Swim Stage 1-7 Awards has a list of clear outcomes that need to be completed in order to gain each Award.

Frequently Asked Questions

This will depend on the membership type and the number of lessons received per week. Our reception teams or Activity co-ordinator will be able to assist you. The price of the lessons are £28.00 per month (£23.12 for concessionary members). Pro-rata payment applies.

Please do not enter the centre more than 10 minutes before the start of your lesson.  

We completely understand that returning to lessons after a long break will be difficult for some and there are things we will do to support this.  Our friendly and helpful teams are available to answer any questions/queries/concerns you/your child may have.  The first lesson back will be planned to introduce all pupils to their teacher, class and any changes that have been implemented to put pupils at ease.  The lesson itself will involve reintroducing confidence practices, pool rules and water safety as well as fun activities to make your child's return to lessons safe, fun and enjoyable.

Spectator seating is available. Only be one parent/guardian will be allowed to accompany your child.  If your child is over the age of 8, you may wish to drop them off for their lesson and pick them up afterwards. 

You can log onto the Home Portal to view the pupils progress. If you have any queries on this, please email the centre if you would like to discuss your child's swimming lesson and the team will be in touch.   

Changing rooms are available, showers may be limited during busy times. 

Lockers are available and will be regularly cleaned and sanitised, please check at reception what coin you will need at it varies from centre to centre.

Anyone that has been told to self-isolate due to medical reasons should not attend swimming lessons (or enter the centre) and must follow government guidance.  As per our terms and conditions, no refunds or credits are issued for absenteeism.  Should long term illness or hospitalisation prevent you/your child from attending the programme, a letter giving details of the reason for absence should be written to the Chief Executive, who will decide if a credit should be issued for missed lessons up to a maximum of 4 weeks.  If the illness is longer than 4 weeks then you will need to decide whether to remove yourself/child from the SLT Swimming Lessons programme or continue to pay to retain the place.

If the pupil is aged 0-3 years, a parent/guardian will be required to enter the water to support the pupil. 

If the pupil is 4-5 years, a parent may be required to enter the water until otherwise instructed by the swimming teacher. 

If a pupil has additional needs and support, a parent/guardian may be required to enter the water to support the pupil. 

Showers are available, but be limited during buy periods. 

You can leave the lesson program at any time by notifying the centre in writing.  As per the terms and conditions of enrolment, any remaining credits will be forfeited. For those parents paying by direct debit cancellation of your direct debit payments can be done by use SLT online cancellation process.

Payment Options

SLT Swimming Lessons monthly direct debit payments are based on 50 weeks to take into account the Christmas closure period each year. The price also takes into account sickness and holiday absences as credits are not issued.

If you or your child have already registered and you have provided an email address as part of your registration you can also view SLT Swimming Lessons progress reports online with the Course Hub. This also enables you to move on through the programme including the ability to select available days and times once competencies are complete.
